If you're enrolling in Chargeflow Alerts (including Visa's RDR program), you'll need to provide two pieces of information from your payment processor: your Visa CAID and your Visa BIN.
What is a Visa CAID?
A Visa CAID (Card Acceptor ID) is a unique identifier that Visa assigns to your merchant account through your payment processor or acquiring bank. Think of it as your merchant ID specifically for Visa transactions.
It's used to enroll your account in Visa programs like:
Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR)
Fraud Alerts
Other Visa dispute and fraud prevention services
Depending on your payment setup, you may have more than one Visa CAID and Visa BIN.
What is a Visa BIN?
A Visa BIN (Bank Identification Number) identifies the acquiring bank that processes your Visa transactions — essentially, it tells Visa which bank is on your side of the transaction.
Together, your Visa CAID + Visa BIN uniquely identify your Visa processing relationship, which is why both are required for enrollment.
Why do I need both?
Visa enrollment requires the combination of your BIN and CAID. Providing just one of them isn't enough to complete the process.
⚠️ Important: Make sure the values you receive are specifically Visa identifiers. Some payment processors may accidentally provide Mastercard or other network identifiers — these cannot be used for Visa enrollment.
How do I get my Visa CAID and BIN?
These identifiers are not typically visible in your merchant dashboard, so you'll need to contact your Payment Service Provider (PSP) or payment processor directly.
Here's what to say when you reach out:
"Could you please provide the Visa CAID and Visa BIN of your merchant account? If this information is not available to your Support team, please escalate the request to your Billing or Payments Department."
What if their support can't find your BIN/CAID or doesn’t know what it is?
This is actually pretty common! Frontline support agents often don't have access to Visa acquiring information. If that happens, simply ask them to escalate your request to their Billing Department, Payments Team, or the internal department responsible for Visa acquiring information.
Here's what to do for specific processors:
Stripe → Ask to escalate to their Billing Team. They typically have access to your Visa CAID and BIN.
Shopify → Ask to escalate to their internal team. Shopify doesn't publicly name the department, but they do have a team that handles these requests.
Other processors → Ask to be escalated to the Billing Department or Payments Team.
Can Chargeflow look this up for me?
Unfortunately, no. Your Visa CAID and BIN are assigned and held by your payment processor or acquiring bank — Chargeflow doesn't have access to this information unless you or your PSP provides it directly.
