Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR) Alerts do not affect or count against your chargeback ratio if your payment processor supports them. Most modern payment processors can distinguish between RDR and a chargeback — so you can rest assured that these alerts are working in your favor, not against you.
Why do I see RDR alerts in my payment processor dashboard?
The key difference between RDR and regular chargebacks is that RDR alerts are automatically refunded within the Visa network (VROL), where the funds move from the acquirer to the issuer. This means a dispute may appear in your payment processor dashboard even though no formal chargeback was actually received. Importantly, it will not count against your dispute rate
Payment processors may display RDR refunds differently, but they most commonly appear as "Dispute Lost" or "Unchallengeable Dispute."
I'm using Stripe — what should I do?
If Stripe is your payment processor, we recommend contacting Stripe Support to activate the "dispute_network_token" on your account. This ensures that resolved RDR alerts are not counted as "Dispute Lost" in your dashboard.
I'm using Shopify — what should I do?
If you're on Shopify, you may notice RDR alerts displaying as "Chargeback Lost" or "Chargeback Resolved" in your admin — even though no formal chargeback process took place. This is completely normal and expected behavior.
Because the refund happens directly through the Visa Network (not through Shopify's platform), you won't see a countdown timer or a separate refund record. This can understandably cause some confusion, but there's no cause for concern — these RDR alerts do not count toward your true chargeback ratio.
It's worth noting that as of January 28, 2026, Shopify updated how chargeback rates are calculated — RDR-resolved disputes are now included in the default chargeback rate shown in your dashboard. This means your rate may appear higher than it actually is. The good news is that Shopify provides a built-in filter so you can easily see your accurate rate, excluding RDR activity. For more context, you can read Shopify's announcement here.
To get your accurate chargeback rate without RDR alerts, follow these steps:
In your Shopify Admin, go to Analytics > Reports and search for "Chargeback rate", then click on the [Chargeback Rate] result.
Open the report and click Filters (+) on the right panel.
Under Fraud Prevention, select "Is Rapid Dispute Resolution."
Toggle to "No" to exclude RDR-resolved orders from your chargeback rate.
This will give you a clean, accurate chargeback rate that reflects only genuine disputes — giving you a clearer picture of your true account health.
