Recurly Integration Guide

Connect your Recurly account with Chargeflow to automatically enrich your disputes with subscription data.

Written by Ariel Chen

Introduction

Chargeflow now integrates with Recurly — an enterprise-class subscription management and billing platform used by SaaS, media, and e-commerce businesses.

Once connected, Chargeflow automatically looks up the corresponding Recurly transaction, subscription, invoice, customer, and order data the moment a dispute is created — injecting it directly into the dispute record and your Dispute page. If a disputed subscription is still active, Chargeflow can also automatically cancel it in Recurly to prevent further billing. All of this is set up in minutes using just your Recurly subdomain and API key, the same seamless experience as our Chargebee and Recharge integrations.

Getting Started

Already a Chargeflow family member? Great! 🙌

Here's how to connect your Recurly account:

  1. Log in to your Chargeflow account.

  2. Navigate to the Integrations page.

  3. Under the "Subscriptions" section, find the Recurly widget and click "Connect".

  4. In the connection drawer, enter:

    • Your Recurly subdomain (format: {yoursubdomain}.recurly.com)

    • Your Recurly API key

  5. Click "Connect" to establish the integration.

That's it! Chargeflow will now automatically enrich your disputes with Recurly subscription data as soon as any dispute arises.

How to get your Recurly API Key

  1. Log in to your Recurly account

  2. Go to IntegrationsAPI Credentials

  3. Click "Add Private API Key"

  4. Name the API key as "Chargeflow"

  5. Set the Application Using This Key to “Other” → Application Name “Chargeflow”

  6. Click on "Save Changes"

  7. You will see the newly generated key → Click on the eye to view the key and copy it.

⚠️ A Full Access API key is required. Read-only keys will not work and will result in a connection error.

Common Questions

Auto-Cancel Subscriptions with Recurly

Automatically cancel disputed subscriptions in Recurly to prevent further billing and reduce future chargebacks.

What is Auto-Cancel?

When a customer files a dispute against an active Recurly subscription, that subscription often continues billing — leading to more chargebacks. Chargeflow's Auto-Cancel feature solves this by automatically canceling the active subscription in Recurly the moment a dispute is filed.

What happens when a subscription is auto-canceled?

  • The subscription is set to expire at the end of the current billing term — it is not deleted or terminated immediately.

  • The customer will not be charged again after the current period ends.

  • The cancellation is logged in your Recurly account.

How to enable Auto-Cancel

  1. Go to the Integrations page in Chargeflow.

  2. Find the Recurly widget.

  3. Click the gear icon (⚙️) on the widget.

  4. Toggle "Auto-Cancel Subscriptions" to On.

To disable it, follow the same steps and toggle the setting Off.

Requirements

  • Your Recurly account must be connected to Chargeflow.

A Full Access API key is required for Auto-Cancel to work. If you connected with a limited-permission key, Auto-Cancel will not function correctly.

Troubleshooting: Recurly Integration Disconnected

Learn what to do if your Recurly integration shows as disconnected or reverts to a "Connect" state.

What does this mean?

If your Recurly widget on the Integrations page reverts to showing a "Connect" button instead of your connected account, it means Chargeflow is no longer able to authenticate with your Recurly account.

Why does this happen?

The most common cause is that your Recurly API key was revoked or its permissions were changed. This can happen if:

  • The API key was manually deleted or rotated in Recurly.

  • Your Recurly account permissions were updated.

  • A team member made changes to API credentials in your Recurly admin.

How to fix it

  1. Log in to your Recurly Admin account.

  2. Navigate to Configuration > API Credentials.

  3. Generate a new Full Access API key.

  4. Click "Connect" on the Recurly widget.

  5. Enter your Recurly subdomain and the new API key, then click "Connect".

✅ All your previous settings — including Auto-Cancel preferences — are preserved automatically when you reconnect. You won't need to reconfigure anything.

What Recurly Data Appears on My Dispute Page?

Learn what subscription data Chargeflow pulls from Recurly and how it's used in your disputes.

Overview

What data is pulled from Recurly?

Data Type

What's Included

Invoice

Amounts, payment dates, line item details, discounts, tax

Customer / Account

⚠️Important: Recurly data fills gaps — it never overwrites

Chargeflow follows a non-destructive enrichment approach. Recurly data is used to fill in missing information only. It will never overwrite existing data already pulled from your payment processor (PSP). This ensures your dispute evidence is always as complete and accurate as possible.
